Responsible for managing and Research and Development departmental activities. Position objective is to formulate coating products promotional materials on film and paper for vendors merchandising purposes. Additionally responsible for assisting in the supervision of other affiliated departments such as color matching, coating, quality control, quality assurance and latex. Work directly with vice president of manufacturing, senior chemist, industrial engineer and purchasing to further insure company productivity and provide best -in-class delivery to customers.
Duties Include:
- Classifying and researching market trends and conditions to increase product development and calculate potential profits.
- Developing departmental budgets to determine overhead investments and consistently assess the financial status of projects.
- Identifying and negotiating contractual terms with suppliers as well as dealing with hands on project engineering and management issues with vendors, contractors and other site personnel.
- Designing and executing experimental programs to increase overall productivity. Identify and recommend the implementation of new and current equipment. This process ultimately encourages developing and optimizing existing products, chemical raw materials and chemical intermediates.
- Providing technical support to various departments.(i.e. application, manufacturing etc.)
- Accompanying sales representatives to address customer concerns and provide technical support as needed.
- Supervising and training employees as well as conducting staff evaluations and performance reviews etc.
- Conducting weekly staff meetings to oversee and plan initial pilot testing in the laboratory and batch scale-ups in the plant.
- Conducting quality meetings to encourage on going problem solving, assessing and decision making for determining company course of action.
Accomplishments Include:
- Expanded latex department for better productivity by purchasing equipment, storage containers and hiring personnel as needed.
- Continually working directly with management and the industrial engineer to fabricate better equipment. ( i.e. draw-down machine, draw down certification unit , sample couture, etc.)
- Redesigning conveyor oven (for drying paint) by modifying the internal heat flow process to recycle and obtain efficiency.
- Assisted in designing a sliding shelf mechanism utilized for faster paint change which ultimately increased production time.
- Developing an adhesive testing method to test and identify various paint coatings and adhesive properties towards different substrates.
- Further developing the block testing process to insure that paint does not adhere to other painted surfaces on promotional materials. Also implemented finished color card testing to insure product quality.
- Creating superior fracture testing methods to increase overall quality, performance and capability.
- Established a color library with various departments designed for recycling paint an minimizing waste.
- Directly responsible for material management by creating a special database for tracking inventory usage.
- Maintaining a basic understanding of Windows 95, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Lotus123, Batch Master software, CHROMA-CALC, Milton Roy Colormate/45 and Macbeth Optimatch-Coatings Version 6.4AB.
